Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince[第23章 Horcruxes]第410-414页,本课内容有5页,描写校长邓布利多(Dumbledore)给哈利第5次上课的内容,在魔药的帮助下,哈利终于利用霍拉斯·斯拉格霍恩(Horace Slughorn)教授对哈利妈妈的暗恋取得了Slughorn隐藏的记忆,这个记忆就是Dumbledore教授千方百计想得到的,这是消灭伏地魔的关键所在。

A Horcrux is the word used for an object in which a person has concealed part of their soul. One splits his/her soul, and hide part of it in an object outside the body. Then even if one’s body is attacked or destroyed, one cannot die, for part of the soul remains earthbound and undamaged. The soul is supposed to remain intact and whole. splitting it is an act of violation, it is against nature. By an act of evil – the supreme act of evil. By committing murder. Killing rips the soul apart. The wizard intent upon creating a Horcrux would use the damage to his advantage: he would encase the torn potion [2014f, 413-414].

sb’s heart leaps ‘心花怒放’: ‘Where is he?’ said Harry, his heart leaping (2014f, 410).

stock ‘家族;世系;出身’: ‘Nonsense,’ said Slughorn briskly, ‘couldn’t be plainer you come from decent wizarding stock, abilities like yours. (2014f, 412)’

Slughorn’s face crumpled and Harry found himself remembering words he had heard nearly two years before (2014f, 413). She crumpled, falling at his feet, sobbing and moaning on the floor (2014f, 30).

He appeared, according to the Baron, to be in good spirits, though a little tired, of course. spirit在本课中第二个义项为‘灵魂;鬼魂;幽灵’:I was ripped from my body, I was less than spirit, less than the meanest ghost … but still, I was alive (2014f, 413).
