经常看综艺节目的朋友们一定对"cue"这个词不陌生吧，"cue"常用于在嘉宾之间互相转接话头、点名等情景中。
在综艺节目中，嘉宾被主持人cue是一件能提高放送量的好事。可是如果是在课上走神或打瞌睡的你，被老师cue的话，那可真是一件“悲剧”了。
那么，cue到底是什么意思呢？

作为名词，cue最早起源于意为“when”的拉丁文单词 "quando"，其常被缩略为Q，或qu，用于演员脚本作为一种标识，以此提醒另一演员应该何时接言或上场。

〔戏剧、电影等中提示下一位演员接言或出场的〕尾白，提示
She stood nervously in the wings waiting for her cue.
她紧张地站在侧目台等待出场的提示。
此外，cue还有“提示，暗示”的意思。

Our success was the cue for ocompanies to press ahead with new investment.
我们的成功给了其他公司一个信号，那就是一定要有新投资。
观看女排比赛时，女排队员们在背后做出的手势也可以叫做cue.
除了以上两种意思，cue还可以表示“台球等的球杆”。在台球运动中，母球（白色球）被称为"cue ball"。
在美式英语中有一个与之相关的俚语as bald as a cue ball，意为“秃得像白球一样，全秃的”。
When he took off his hat, we saw that he was as bald as a cue ball.
他脱帽后，我们发现他头全秃了。

作为动词，cue则表示“〔尤指在表演中〕提示”。
to give someone a sign that it is the right moment for them to speak or do something, especially during a performance
The studio manager will cue you when it's your turn to come on.
该你上场的时候，制作经理会提示你的。
The change of seasons also cues the start of migration.
季节的更替也给出了开始迁徙的信号。
短语cue up意为“将磁带等放置所需位置”。
The DVD player's cued up and ready to go.
录像带已经到位，可以开始了。
Officer, I cued it up to the clearest shot of the guy.
长官，我把录像倒到能看清罪犯的地方了。

演员或主持人等在舞台上忘记台词时，现场导演用来提示台词等内容的提示板/提示卡；或者在考试时的提示卡对话，都可以叫做cue card. 当然，如果是机器类的自动提词器，则叫做autocue或teleprompter.

cue还有一些常见的短语搭配。
比如on cue为“恰好，正好”，相当于right now。
And then on cue, the weather changed.
天气就在这时起了变化。

take one's cue from意为“学某人的样，模仿某人”。
